Reducing Maternal Mortality Rates
(2021 - 2023)

2023

Solar-Powered Maternity Ward Upgrade and Comprehensive Post-Natal Care Program at Sura Primary Healthcare Center, Lagos Island.

In 2023, maternal mortality remains a critical issue, with one woman dying from pregnancy-related complications every two minutes, primarily in low-income regions like sub-Saharan Africa. To combat this, we improved power reliability in a maternity ward by installing solar panels and inverters, providing stable, eco-friendly energy for uninterrupted care. This initiative reduced dependency on the unreliable grid and supported essential services.

We also launched a post-natal program focused on maternal and infant health. Through interactive sessions on breastfeeding and new born care, we prepared mothers for post-natal care, empowering them with practical knowledge. The program, supported by local government officials and included engaging contests with prizes, improved maternal and infant health education and prepared mothers for post-natal care.

Provision of a 3-part Automated Hematology Analyzer for a Maternity Ward at Sura Primary Healthcare Center, Lagos Island.

Our commitment to maternal healthcare took a significant step forward with the introduction of a state-of-the-art 3-part automated hematology analyzer in the maternity ward. This advanced equipment transformed diagnostic capabilities, offering precise and detailed blood analysis for expectant mothers and their babies. Following installation and calibration, we conducted intensive training for the medical staff on the operation, maintenance, and result interpretation of this equipment.

By integrating this analyzer into routine care, we've seen remarkable improvements in the accuracy and speed of detecting and managing maternal health issues, leading to better outcomes and higher standards of care.

This project was more than an investment in equipment; it was an investment in lives.

Renovation and Equipping of Maternal Ward at Onikan Health Center, Lagos Island.

Maternal and neonatal care is essential to building healthier communities, which is why we dedicated ourselves to improving the facilities and services at a local maternity ward. By creating a safer, more comfortable environment for both patients and healthcare workers, we aimed to make a lasting impact on maternal mortality rates.

With crucial enhancements, the ward's functionality improved significantly, benefiting everyone involved. We provided essential resources, including fans, air conditioners, and maternal kits, ensuring new mothers and their babies had immediate access to necessary supplies after childbirth. These upgrades also elevated the quality of care, enhanced operational efficiency, and reduced waiting times through modernized infrastructure.
