Valentine’s Day...the one day of the year that places and people put the most pressure on you to have a
significant other, or be in some sort of situationship. Well, all that glitters is not gold. Here are a couple of Valentine’s Day stories that let you know that the grass isn’t always greener and that reminds you that sometimes
it’s just better to be single.
“I was 22 and had just moved back to Lagos after college. My longtime bf and I had been in an on-and-off long-distance relationship where we had missed doing those cute little things that couples do. Anyway, Valentine’s Day came,
and I was feeling cute and what not with my broke copper self.
I wrote him a love letter pouring out my cute feelings of what I now know was immature and inexperienced affection, not love. There was nothing I didn’t say in that letter...from wanting to have his babies and how I wanted to be his wife one day, *cringe* In fact, thinking about it right now makes me sick to my stomach. T
he foolishness...
We go to dinner that night at our favorite hangout in Lekki Phase 1 on Admiralty Way. Heartbreak loading.
We’re at our table and his rude
ass friend just pulls up a chair and starts talking and is like ‘Who is this? One of your babes?’ I nearly fainted. See shock. So naturally, I look perplexed. This dead guy now
really went on to say ‘You know you’re always rolling with babes, so I can’t tell who is who.’
Of course when we eventually left that stupid little establishment,
we got into a big fight. I’d been suspicious of him for months and thought he had been cheating. And I was right.

“Nawa o. So it was my first and only Valentine’s Day with some man I had just started dating. We’d been offcial for about two or three months. One thing to note is that he was significantly older than me. There was an eleven year age gap. At the time it seemed ideal, but now I know that age is nothing but a number. You can be mature or immature at any age.
