SUSTAINABILITY CORNER
Champion Spotlight
Hello, I'm Omolara Motunrayo Akinola. I'm an Executive Trainee based in Lagos.
I have always been uncomfortable with the disparities in access to basic amenities and how those that have little or nothing have so much taken from them in a world with so much in abundance.
There is a need for everyone to take action to ensure that no one is left behind and I have continuously sought out ways to fulfill this need in my own little way.
Partnering with the Sustainability Team in Access Bank, I became curious about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. After some research, I was taken with SDG 1 - No Poverty, SDG 2 - Zero Hunger, SDG 3 - Good Health and Well Being, SDG 4 - Quality Education as well as SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy.
A golden opportunity arose through the Access Bank Employee Volunteer Scheme, where I partnered with like-minded individuals in my group to undertake projects that have real impact.
Participating in the Fincon, Strategy and Enterprise Services (FINEBS) CSR committee, our objective for 2019/2020 focused on achieving SDG 4 - Quality Education, SDG 7 -

Affordable and Clean Energy, alongside SDG 3 - Good health and Well-being, through a multi-faceted initiative/project.
The initiative gave rise to the Access FINEBS Scholarship Fund and focused on reaching out to people living with Down Syndrome with the intention to improve their well-being and provide them with clean energy.
I know there is still a lot to be done to achieve the SDGs, but I am honored to be a sustainability champion and have taken on this role to create awareness and advocate on the global goals. This I believe will be achieved both by saying and by doing.
I am continuously motivated and challenged by other sustainability champions and I am privileged to be a part of Access Bank's sustainability success story.
