CACOVID update:
Safeguarding the nations most vulnerable against COVID-19
The private sector led Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) has been busy donating essential palliative materials to various State Governments across the country, in a bid to support the efforts of these state governments in their fight against the virus.
A total of over 38 trucks with a variety of food items were handed over to Mr. Marcus Dibel, First Bank Nigeria's Business Manager, Damaturu branch to the State Government of Yobe to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
CACOVID also improved the testing capacity of NCDC by donating over 100,000 test kits and various personal protective equipment (PPE). The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, on behalf of the people, also appreciated the efforts of the coalition. “We have taken delivery of about 80% of the total number of 56,454 cartons of noodles, 28,227 5kg bags of sugar, 28,227 10kg bags of rice, 28,228 5kg bags of maize and semovita, 28,227 cartons of pasta and 28,227 1kg bags of salt” Buni said.
The coalition similarly unveiled the Delta State arm of its palliative scheme at an event centre in Asaba. The scheme, inaugurated by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, will help in mitigating the debilitating effects of COVID-19 on the less privileged in the state. In his speech, the Governor, lauded CACOVID for deeming it necessary to pull resources together to make the donations aimed at
ameliorating the plight of the downtrodden in the society at this critical time that hunger tends to abound in the society.
They were not done yet. Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State launched the distribution of palliatives to help protect the vulnerable against the effects of COVID-19. The flag off event which held at Bauchi State Agricultural Program, BSADP, saw the distribution of essential food items which included; bags of rice, maize and flour, millet, sugar, spaghetti and vegetable oil among others.
According to Senator Bala, the relief materials received by the state from CACOVID and other Federal Government agencies included 269,350 kg of rice, 100,500 kg of maize, 320,000 kg of beans, 795,000 pieces of spaghetti, 400,000 pieces of Indomie, 16,000 kg of salt, 292,934 kg of sugar, 11,950 litres of palm oil, 150,000 pieces of maggie cubes and 406,900 kg of millet.
The fight to safeguard the nation against COVID-19 continues.
