LIVING THE BRAND
Balance
Work frequently takes precedence over everything else in our lives. Being an
Access Warrior can be very tasking when coupled with our desire to succeed professionally, the tendency is to set aside our own well-being and focus solely on the job. The Coronavirus pandemic has further blurred the lines between work and personal hours and suddenly, the only thing we have going for us is work.
What are your hobbies? When last did you spend quality time with your friends and family? When last did you step back just to unwind and relax? Movies, paint balling, sightseeing, rock climbing and hiking, are some of the things you put on your to do list for some future time. Unfortunately they have become a distant memory, because you are just too busy.
Maintaining a work-life balance is about separating your personal and professional lives without allowing one to encroach on the other. Both are important and neither should be neglected.
As as an employee, achieving this balance not only helps maintain your physical and mental wellbeing, it also improves your productivity and ensures you don't burn out or experience a meltdown. As an institution, once excellence is achieved at whatever level or scope, it becomes a standard that should be maintained or surpassed. So the work will keep increasing, the pressure will not stop, the goals will not be paused so you can take a breather.
You know what they say about ‘all work and no play,’ you have to be intentional about creating time for yourself and investing your energy in things that bring you joy and ignite your passions. Get a hobby, start exercising, create a bucket list and find like minds or accountability partners to help you achieve them. Also be intentional about your family time.
It is a fact not a rumor that you only get one life. So do more for yourself. Be more so you can do more for the brand.
