Maintaining a whistle blowing policy and process is a requirement of the CBN’s code of corporate governance for banks.
Whistle blowing enables all staff and stakeholders to speak up against unethical behaviour, abuse of power, conflicts of interest, bribery/corruption, financial misconduct, wrong deeds, theft and sexual harassment being perpetuated within the Bank.
Key principles of the Bank’s whistle blowing mechanism:
a) Provide an assurance that whistle blowing reports made will be promptly investigated
b) Provide an assurance that the identity of the reporting employee will be kept confidential
c) Provide an assurance that there will be no retaliation against any reporting employee
d) Infringements of items (a) to (c) will result in disciplinary action including dismissal
