Building on ourExisting
Momentum
Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to welcome you to 2021!
2020 was an unusual and extraordinary year. This time last year, none of us could have predicted what was to unfold. At Access Bank, we were all affected, yet, despite the challenges, we had a very successful year.
Let me revisit some of what 2020 meant to us.
Even though the Bank quickly adjusted plans to accommodate what we thought the year was going to bring, we, along with everyone else, underestimated the quantum and severity of COVID-19. We were faced with some very difficult decisions to mitigate its impact, cope with the resultant economic downturn, and handle some strong financial headwinds. All of these things crippled many local and global businesses, yet the Bank prevailed.
In the spirit of the passion that each and every one of us holds for the wellbeing of humanity, Access Bank did not hesitate to get involved. We championed the National Intervention through CACOVID (Coalition Against COVID-19) in order to stem the spread and reduce its impact. Thank you to those who were involved in this critical work for Nigeria.
Despite a global pandemic environment, 2020 turned out to be our most successful financial year yet. This is something to be extremely proud of and it is only because
of the hard work, dedication, commitment, and loyalty of all of you, that made this happen. I applaud and thank you all most sincerely. You are our strength and our greatest asset. You all proved that nothing phases you and nothing deters you from pulling together to ensure the success of Access Bank.
Our responsibility is to our customers - all 41 million of them. Without us, many would not have survived the year and we can all be proud of the role we played and continue to play.
Sadly, we were unable to host almost all the events we had planned for last year. The Global Citizen Concert, our Christmas Party, The Born in Africa Festival (BAFEST), and many others. But, on a positive note, Access Bank still brought home a few awards.
For the 5th consecutive time, Access Bank was awarded the 2020 Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Award for 'Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement'. We won the Agriculture Deal of the Year at the African Banker Award 2020, for our role in helping Singapore commodities trader - Olam, develop their rice operations in Nigeria. African Banker Award 2020 nominated us for African Bank of the Year and I was honored to receive African Banker of the Year 2020.
We have other achievements to celebrate as well. Access Bank proudly opened its doors for business in
