exercises to help clear the chest during
COVID-19
recovery
Experts indicate that a person may have mucus or phlegm in their lungs if they have contracted the COVID-19 infection. It is especially important to focus on clearing out the lungs during COVID-19 recovery.
The following exercises may be recommended by a physiotherapist or nurse following COVID-19.
Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) exercise consists of three simple breathing exercises that help clear out the chest:
1 Breathing control: 2 Gentle, relaxed breathing
Deep breaths:
Breathe in slowly and deeply, gently breathe out without forcing it, and repeat about 3-4 times only.

Forced expiration techniques (Huff ):
Take a medium-sized breath in and breathe out forcefully for a short time. Ensure to keep mouth open and use stomach/chest muscles. Repeat 1-2 times and always finish on a cough or huff.
