Hi, my name is Cherish Samuel, I’m a registered nurseand IworkatatreatmentcentreinEti-Osa. I know that we are currently facing unprecedented times as a result of the pandemic. During such times, it's very difficult to remain positive as everywhere we look, all we hear or read about is negative news and sad stories.
As someone on the front lines, I just want to say that in the midst of all the negativity, there are some positive things worth celebrating. For starters, it’s great that Nigeria is not experiencing the same high number of reported deaths that other countries are experiencing. Another thing for me, are the moments I get to witness my patients, regain their ability to walk out of our isolation centre and reunite with their families. The feeling is indescribable, it's so amazing to see because once you walk into that isolation centre, you don’t know your fate, you don't know if you're going to survive it or not. So when they finally test negative for the virus and they’re able to leave and reunite with family, it’s wonderful. Most especially the more seriously ill patients admitted into the ICU. When you see those patients recover, able to talk, take care of themselves and get out, it makes my heart smile.
In spite of all the negativity, I don't think there is a feeling more incredible than seeing patients able to walk out and go back home and be reunited with their family in good health.
Coronavirus is not a death sentence, people do recover and go home to continue living their lives.
Let this serve as a reminder to us all to stay positive in the midst of all we’re facing and to also, stay safe.
